unfinished

So today I had all these elaborate, grandiose plans of what I would accomplish today, in preparation for visitors later this week, and you know, just keeping ahead of the filth. I wrote out an extensive to-do list last night, even debating whether or not to add exercising, since I ate those cookies and root beer float yesterday and swimsuit season is around the corner.

And then Grace basically laughed in my face. By which I obviously mean that she woke up at the horrible hour of 5:30 and cried for me for an hour awhile until I dragged my half-sleeping body out of bed. I stumbled into the shower, because there was no way I'd face her without one, and by the time I got done, she was asleep again. Not sure whether to be thankful for the peaceful breakfast or annoyed that I was still tired and didn't have a nap built into my schedule for the day, I did tell her that she's grounded when I finally woke her up.

We got ourselves to a friend's for a playdate, where Grace graciously thanked our hosts at the end of a nice visit by throwing an enormous tantrum when I cruelly put an end to her graham cracker mooching behavior. Hitting, screaming, throwing herself on the floor, the whole shebang. And since the matinee went so well, she encored her performance several more times this afternoon, pre and post too-short nap (on her part, mine's still non-existent). I decided not to subject everyone at our local grocery and bread stores to her displays, so I hope Joe understands when there's no milk, bread, etc. when he comes home.
the little minx with her ever-patient, non-temper-losing mother, obviously
Naturally, while I complain about my annoying but admittedly trivial grievances, she put her angel halo on and sang "Salve, salve Regina" and "Edelweiss" while playing with stacking toys. I guess Mom did a good job teaching her those songs, because I certainly didn't teach them.

I'm hoping against all hope that this teething business is over really soon. Of course, then I'll need other excuses to procrastinate my to-do list until I'm really under pressure. I still have tomorrow and part of Thursday before people who don't normally live here show up to complete my ever-growing unfinished list, so it's all good. Instead of cleaning the bathroom, maybe I'll just troll my beloved Pinterest for recipe ideas that don't involve milk, bread, or fresh produce.
