DIY Felt Pizza

I realize that felt pizza (and felt food in general) has been done and done again, but I thought I'd share my take with you. Grace loves the play kitchen we gave her for Christmas last year, and "cooks" in it almost daily. Several times she's requested to make pizza, even though we didn't have any of the ingredients for it. I'd seen several tutorials around the interwebs and thought, why not? With the help of my mom and her mad sewing skills, we made Grace one of her new most-played-with toys.

First, to help determine the size we wanted, we traced around a smallish plate. It was all very scientific, I assure you. We wanted it to be big enough to have slices but small enough to hopefully fit into her play kitchen's oven.

After cutting a top and bottom, we also had a third layer that we added, but cut the middle out of, to make the crust more puffy.

We then pinned and sewed the layers together, sewing an inner and outer circle to form the crust.

We decided to sew the pizza sauce on permanently, but left the cheese to be a removable topping. After the sauce was sewed on, we (and by we I mean my mom) sewed two seams next to each other down the middle, going each way. There was just enough room between the seams to cut the pieces apart in halves, then quarters, leaving us with four slices that fit together.

We then cut out our toppings: cheese, pepperoni, and mushrooms. At some point I'll probably add some black olives and green peppers, but for now there's enough little pieces floating around that she doesn't miss them. I opted for limiting it to things she likes/recognizes for now.

And now I'm on a felt food making roll, so I'm sure I'll be sharing more ideas as they get done. Now I just need to find a place to keep everything so it doesn't get lost... :)
